How to set a Maturity Target for a Control

Use this guide if you’ve already set up controls in InsAIght and want to define or adjust their maturity targets.

InsAIght uses a 5-level maturity scale (M1–M5) to measure how effectively a control is implemented:

  • M1: Initial (Ad-hoc)
  • M2: Managed
  • M3: Defined
  • M4: Measured
  • M5: Optimizing

For each control, you **must define a target maturity level; **this is your "north star" for what you want to achieve.

Rationale for Different Targets:

Not all controls require the same maturity level. Consider:

  • Business impact: How critical is the control?
  • Risk level: What’s the potential impact of non-compliance?
  • Regulatory requirements: Are there legal or industry mandates?
  • Resource constraints: Do you have the capacity to achieve higher maturity?

Example Targets:

Control

Target Maturity

Reason

Role-Based Access Control

M4

Critical for security and compliance.

Backup Procedures

M3

Important but less critical.

Vendor Management

M2

Foundational level for implementation.
