How to add a Control
Controls are the concrete measures your organisation implements to meet compliance requirements. InsAIght supports the full control lifecycle, from initial definition and evidence collection to assessment and continuous improvement.
There are three ways in which controls can be added to your organization on insAIght:
- by selecting controls when adopting a framework
- by choosing controls from the Anove template library (catalog), and
- by adding them manually.
This guide covers the second and third methods. For the first method, the steps are provided here.
The following video below shows how to add controls from the Anove catalog or manually. The steps are described below.
Adding Controls from the Anove Catalog or Manually
Here's how to add a new control:
Step 1: the Controls tab
- Click on the 'Controls' tab in the left-hand menu.
- Here, you’ll see an overview of all controls in your organization, including:
- Average maturity of your controls.
- Number of controls at target vs. below target.
- A detailed list of each control, including: maturity level, linked requirements, creation date, and owner.
Step 2: Add a New Control
- In the top-right corner, click on 'Add controls'.
- You'll have two options:
- Option 1: "Browse Control Catalog": import pre-defined controls from Anove’s library
- Option 2: Add Manually": create a custom control tailored to your organization’s needs.
If you choose option 1:
- Search for controls by: name, key (e.g., "ISO 27001 A.9.1.2") or domain (e.g., AI, Asset Management, Business Continuity, Cloud Security, etc.).
- Select the desired controls from the search results.
- Click "Import" to add them to your organization. You have successfully imported a new control from the catalog!
If you choose option 2:
- Fill in the required information:
- Control Name: A clear, descriptive name (e.g., "Quarterly Firewall Rule Review").
- Objective: The purpose of the control (e.g., "Ensure firewall rules are up-to-date and aligned with security policies").
- Description: Detailed explanation of the control’s scope and implementation.
- Desired Maturity Level: Select the target maturity (M1–M5) based on your organization’s goals.
- Owner: Assign a team member responsible for the control.
- Review Periodicity: Set how often the control should be reviewed (e.g., Quarterly, Annually).
- (Optional) Add additional notes for context or instructions.
- Click "Create Control". You’ve successfully created a new control manually!
After adopting your frameworks and activating the relevant controls, the “Controls” tab becomes your central workspace for managing, reviewing and monitoring them.
